Colloquium “Europe's History of the Present: Universalism and Particularism”

The KFG colloquium continues with its next session on Wednesday, July 23rd, 2025, with a lecture by Senior Fellow 
Carsten Herrmann-Pillath on "Market Under Heaven: Chinese Conceptions of Markets and Market Economy in a Comparative Perspective".

Carsten Herrmann-Pillath is Professor and Permanent Fellow at the Max Weber Centre for Advanced Cultural and Social Studies, University of Erfurt. His transdisciplinary research covers economic philosophy, evolutionary, ecological and institutional economics, and Chinese studies. In 2017, he published a comprehensive monograph on China’s economic system: “China’s Economic Culture: The Ritual Order of State and Markets” (Routledge). In 2023, the summa of his work as an economist was published (co-authored with Christian Hederer): ‘A New Principles of Economics. The Science of Markets’ (Routledge).(www.youtube.com/@ANewPrinciplesofEconomics). His most recent book is: “HAVINGS. Steps Towards a New Economic Philosophy of Property and Beyond” (Campus 2024).
