Soviet science towns in times of economic transition: modernity, environment, nostalgia

Dissertationsprojekt von Victoria Myznikova

Betreuerin: Prof. Dr. Julia Herzberg

The project focuses on the transformation of Apatity, one of the first Soviet science towns, its environmental policies, and its relationtionship with nature after the dissolution of the Soviet Union and the change of the economic system. Through the lenses of urban planning, extractivist projects, ‘environing techniques’, and socio-historical memory, it aims to show the fundamental shifts in the complex balance that existed between scientific institutions, local community, and the environment.
